Who Is The Historical MV-DBMS User?
The historical user of MV-DBMS is someone who either needs maximum productivity in the development of an application for their needs, or the maximum flexibility to respond to either an undefined problem or an evolving world, or precise adaptation to their specific needs, or all of these properties.
In citing this maxim, we refer only to the conscious user. As many as 70% of all users do not know that they are using an MV-DBMS environment, as the same is often buried deeply within the application developed by a developer.
Among conscious users, you will find a high preponderance of medical and distribution applications, as well as those developed as a custom solution for particular businesses, institutions, and government agencies. In many of these, you will find a high rate of change, sometimes almost daily. For instance, in the medical billing field, there is a constant struggle between the insurers and providers to assure that payments are made promptly and at the maximum rate. MV-DBMS provides quick adaptation to daily rule changes. MV-DBMS is widely used on both sides because it provides low cost speedy revision of the rules.
However, even among those who do not know that they use MV-DBMS, the same maxim still applies ... in the specialization of the software provider. The 6,000 commercial applications available in MV-DBMS indicate a high degree of specialization, rather than duplication. In few other environments will you find applications specifically developed for "pawn brokers who specialize in automobile pawn," "orthodontists," or "neurologists." Applications are normally very expensive to develop, and as such often must be developed for a general audience rather than a specialized audience (e.g. doctors, rather than neurologists). MV-DBMS efficiency allows applications to be custom-designed for specific needs, while retaining a competitive price.
